At the June BayRail Alliance meeting, we will explore the impacts and discussing strategies to address the funding shortfall.

The state budget crisis is impacting transit agencies throughout California, including Caltrain. In February, state legislators passed a budget which eliminated State Transit Assistance (STA) funding for the next five years. At the June BayRail Alliance meeting, we will explore the impacts and discussing strategies to address the funding shortfall in the state level. We will also pay a special attention to Caltrain. Because of the prolonged economic downturn and the fact that Caltrain lacks dedicated funding, we expect Caltrain's operating budget to be even worse next year. We cannot afford to wait until the time Caltrain announces drastic service cuts and fare increases.
