Track the Bay Area’s rail future at a public meeting on the Draft Regional Rail Plan

After 18 months of analysis and stakeholder involvement, a draft regional rail plan for expanding the region’s network of rail lines has been completed.

The Draft Regional Rail Plan was made to identify potential rail passenger and rail freight improvements for the near-, intermediate-, and long-term and the economics of different scenarios.

Come to one of a series public meetings (listed below) where you can:

* See and comment on what’s proposed to move people and freight throughout the region in the coming 50 years

* Learn how the regional rail network would be enhanced with proposed California high-speed rail investments (and view alternatives for bringing high-speed rail into the Bay Area)

General Meeting March 15, 2007

Dumbarton Rail -- What's Next for this Project?

Time/date:
Thursday, March 15, 2007
6:15 PM - 8:10 PM

Our guest speakers for this meeting include Steve Minden and other Caltrain staff who will inform us of some of the hurdles the Dumbarton rail project is facing, and about phasing options being contemplated for this project.

Steve Minden is Program Manager for Grade Separations, Stations and Facilities at Caltrain, a commuter railroad that operates between San Francisco and San Jose. Prior to this assignment Mr. Minden was PM for Tutor-Saliba Corp. on the design-build contracts for the San Bruno and South San Francisco BART stations. He has worked as a project manager and project executive for various general contractors on a wide variety of transportation, industrial and building projects around the world.

In preparation for the meeting, you may wish to review the presentation made to the Dumbarton Policy Advisory Committee (Adobe pdf)

Location:
back room of Cafe Yulong, 743 W. Dana St.
Mountain View

2001- Dumbarton

2001 — BayRail's lobbying efforts help lead to Caltrain agreeing to be the Dumbarton Rail operator. Caltrain agrees on the condition that it would not be required to fund any of the expenses of operating the  Dumbarton service.

1991 - Prop 116

1991 — PR2000 (later known as BayRail Alliance) successfully fights California Transportation Commission to release Prop. 116 funds for right-of-way purchase from SP. Purchase later includes Dumbarton line, and trackage rights to Gilroy. CTC releases funds on condition that train service increase to 60 trains per weekday and a stronger local agency is created to run the service.
