Santa Clara Permanent 1/2 Cent Sales Tax for Transit 1976

In 1976 voters approved, by 54%, a 100% 1/2 cent sales tax for transit. This tax is permanent and has been used primarily to fund the bus system. The problem is that buses are not very attractive to riders and have a very high operating cost.
