Volunteer

BayRail Alliance is a volunteer-run organization.  Please consider whether you can help with one or more of the following:

Running the organization:

  • Meeting Coordinator.  Arrive a half-hour early to our monthly meetings to assist with set-up, greeting attendees and collecting money for dinner
  • Bookkeeper. Help us to keep our finances in order by providing bookkeeping services.
  • Newsletter editor. Are you a self-starter with strong writing/editing skills?  We’re seeking someone to edit our quarterly newsletter. Familiarity with a page layout program such as Pagemaker or Microsoft Publisher is desired but not necessary.
  • Publicity coordinator. Help publicize BayRail Alliance on a regular basis, such as by getting announcements into various publications and meeting calendars, and finding places to distribute our brochures and keep them in stock.
  • Board member. Help set policy for the organization and to comply with legal responsibilities, and keep us focused on our mission
  • Other skills. Perhaps you have other skills, like graphic design, legal expertise, or playing the banjo. We can probably figure out a way to use your talents to help further our cause. Please contact us.

Relationships with the community:

  • Meet with your local elected officials. Help us to set up meetings to discuss rail transit with your city councilmembers and other elected officials.
  • Presentations to community groups.  Are you involved in a Rotary Club or other community group that may be interested in receiving a presentation on rail transit issues?  Arrange to have us speak to your group!
  • Attend transit meetings. Transit agencies hold many regular meetings each month at which decisions are made, and it’s impossible for our executive director to attend them all. We’re looking for folks to “adopt a meeting” to attend once a month, to monitor the agendas and report back to us. »meeting schedule
  • Monitor and/or attend city council meetings. City councils sometimes discuss rail transit. With so many meetings each month, we can’t keep track of them all. You can help us by following the proceedings of your local city council and alert us to any pertinent agenda items. You can also help by giving testimony to the council to alert them to our campaigns and to inform the council members of our positions on issues.
  • Staff a booth at a transit fair or other community event. We’re seeking outgoing, friendly people to help others figure out their transit options and to talk to them about our group and campaigns.

If any of these pique your interest, please contact us to discuss further details. We appreciate your interest in helping to advance our cause of better rail transportation for the Bay Area!
